Is a virtual office address the same as a registered office?

No, they are not the same. A registered office address is the official, legally required address of a company and is used for statutory correspondence from government bodies, CRO, and legal authorities.

Can I use my home address instead of a registered office facility?

Of course, you are permitted to use your home address as your registered office, however, the majority of companies choose not to, because the registered office address is publicly available for anyone to view. If you live in rented accommodation, using your home address may also breach the terms of your tenancy agreement.

In addition, a residential address can appear less professional to clients and partners. If a debt is owed, enforcement officers typically attend the registered office address first, and if a judgment is made against you or your company, legal correspondence relating to that judgment is usually sent to the registered office address.
